Adam Ondra climbed the route “Die Vertreibung der letzten Idealisten” (XIIa) in RP style in the Saxon sandstone. The ascent is the central theme of the half-hour film “Heartbeats of the World’s Oldest Crag,” which the Mammut brand released yesterday in collaboration with Adam. The documentary chronicles Adam’s return to the towers of Saxony, where he encounters traditional climbing ethics: long leads, minimal protection, and a ban on chalk. The film also captures the historical context of Saxony’s more than 150-year-old climbing tradition and showcases the iconic routes of the local sandstone towers. In addition, it hints at future challenges, including the “Circus Maximus” project, considered one of the most difficult unclimbed routes on sandstone. The film features Robert Leistner, the first ascender of “Die Vertreibung der letzten Idealisten,” alongside other legends of Saxon climbing: Bernd Arnold, Herbert Richter, and Jindřich Hudeček. Jan Šimánek served as director and cinematographer, and a larger team of Czech filmmakers contributed to the production. Watch the film here:
