At the same time, a fairly large-scale “rebolting” effort is getting underway… (local authorities have finally realized that roads aren’t built to last forever and don’t have an unlimited lifespan) - primarily the chains, and subsequently the entire roads.

After consulting with the guys from Rebolting Kalymnos, we decided to establish an affiliated Czech section led by guru Jára Tišer, who is the author of many routes on the island, has the necessary facilities here, storage space for gear, and, last but not least, has long-term cooperation with local route setters and guidebook authors and has their permission to create new routes and maintain existing ones.
I would like to ask you to contribute any amount you can to the bank account listed at the end of this message, so that Kalymnos can once again become a climbing paradise - and, above all, a safe one for climbers.
A few numbers to give you an idea…..
During peak season, there are an estimated 2,500-3,500 climbers on Kalymnos at any given time, rotating in 7-10 day intervals over the 6-8 months that the season lasts (yes, hobbyists climb here even in June, July, and August)… you can do the math…
In 2025, the Rebolting Kalymnos account received
15,000 euros … yes, in words: fifteen thousand euros …
The latest edition of the guidebook lists over
4,000 routes …
The most dangerous routes number roughly
500, established between 1999 and 2009 …
Petr died on a route from 2002, located 500 meters as the crow flies from the sea and equipped with the original protection …
Apart from the “year of creation” listed in the printed guidebook, there is no database of routes; there is no easily accessible database of rebolted routes and sectors …
The whole thing is still taking shape as we go, but we don’t want to and can’t just let it be… everything is and will be completely transparent!
Please share this link on social media (I don’t have any and don’t want any) …
