Snow avalanche in Krkonose (Riesengebirge, North Bohemia, CZ) hit two ski mountaineers, one of them died. About 30 years old couple were in area between Lucni bouda and Obri Dul on Friday 26th December afternoon. The man escaped himself, women was rescued by mountain rescue service crew after about 3 hours under snow she was found unconsciousness.

EYS: Adam Ondra won in Kranj (SLO) and overall series 2008
Czech Adam Ondra won the last competition of European Youth Series 2008 in lead climbing in Kranj, Slovenia, last weekend in his category (B). Among juniors category the best Czech was Martin Stranik, who finish 3rd in Kranj and ended 2nd overall in the series.
Adam Ondra climbed yesterday another route in the 9a grade: Open Air in Schleier Wasserfall, Austria. He recorded it to his diary on Czechclimbing.com as 9a+.
The last World Cup competition 2008 Kranj (SLO) this weekend
The decision who will win the overall World Cup 2008 in lead climbing will fall this weekend on the last competition in Kranj (Slovenia). Among the women has been already decided, Johanna Ernst (AUT) is sure winner, but among men there are three candidates and Czech favorite Tomas Mrazek is the first of them at the moment.

The mayor of Prague, Pavel Bem, is trying to climb on Mount Vinson, the highest mountain of Antarctica, Czech mainstream media iDNES reported today.
Pavel Bem, who has been a long standing active mountaineer, climbed in May 2007 Mount Everest with a small Slovak-Czech expedition in the Himalayas.
Pavel Bem (44) is serving his second term in office, and is a member of the right wing party ODS. His last successful election campaign (2006) was established on his image as a Politician and a Mountaineer.
He was considered as the second man of the party and potential future Czech Premier, but recently this month he has failed in candidature to be the ODS chairman.
He is originally a physician, and in the 90´s was an expert in the treatment of drug addicts. He climbed e.g. Pik Komunismus (7495 m) in Pamir, Tadjikistan in 1987.
